  26. NO CARRIER means the calling modem was not able to negotiate a data
  27. connection with the answering modem.  This can happen for many reasons:

  29.  1. You dialed the wrong number.
  30.  2. The answering modem was turned off.
  31.  3. The answering modem was not in ANSWER mode.
  32.  4. The modems are incompatible or buggy.
  33.  5. The telephone connection was very bad.

  37. SET CARRIER-WATCH affects the CALLING Kermit.  It means: "let me enter
  38. CONNECT mode even if the serial port is not detecting the carrier signal".
  39. It is used primarily for direct (port-to-port, no-modem) connections.  It
  40. has nothing to do with dialing.
